Top 10 Mistakes Authors Make
That Can Be Avoided Easily
(in no particular order)

1.  Sending your entire manuscript instead of querying first.

2.  Sending your query letter or other materials to agents
who do not represent your particular genre.

3.  Sending your query letter via email when the agent
does not accept email queries.

4.  Sending your query or other materials as an attachment
to an email when the agent does not accept attachments.

5.  Not including your full name or contact information on
your query or other materials.

6.  Abundant typos and errors that could have been
avoided by spell-checking your query before you sent it.

7.  Not following the Submission Guidelines that are listed
on the agent's website.

8.  Using
bright, colorful, randomly-changing fonts
or colored paper.

9.  Sending an email query that contains a link to a
webpage about your book and directing the agent to visit
the website if he or she wants information about your
manuscript.

10.  Including in your query letter, proposal, or manuscript
negative comments about yourself, your writing ability, your
previous attempts at querying agents, or the manuscript
itself.

There are more errors that could be listed, but these are
the most common mistakes we encounter that can be
fixed easily.
